And we, ourselves, are trying to emerge from the wrong side of history. I know that it isn't too late, but it was beginning to feel as though our transgressions would become a permanent way of life for our nation.

it was a wonderful speech. i especially liked the part:

To those who cling to power through corruption and deceit and the silencing of dissent, know that you are on the wrong side of history; but that we will extend a hand if you are willing to unclench your fist.

Running for office is not OJT for the presidency. His writing skills may come in handy when communicating with world leaders and his knowledge of constitutional law may help him decide the fine points of a legal argument. Anyway, the senator has an excellent resume that lacks substantive experience making tough decisions under the pressures of the most demanding job in the world. Intellect alone is insufficient qualification for a leadership position. The Presidency is significantly more demanding than the job as community organizer or united states senator. As for the campaign, the senator does not make the thousands of decisions needed to keep the whole enterprise moving forward. He has managers and strategists who do the grunt work of managing the campaign. I have no doubt that the senator possess potential for leadership. However he does not yet possess the experience necessary to run the country. Just for the record, John Adams was a practicing attorney, congressman, special diplomatic envoy and vice president before becoming president. Desmond Tutu worked his way up a church hierarchy to become a bishop before gaining international renown for his principled political positions. He was far more than a community organizer, he managed a large religious organization and spoke for millions. As for Dr. King, he was special. He organized a nation to finally implement the ideals written into the Declaration of Independence. We are still striving to make his dream a reality.

By achievements, I guess I was referring to his having won the nomination for the Democratic Party as a candidate to run for U.S. President following being elected U.S. Senator, having been a professor of constitutional law, graduate of Harvard, written two books, etc.

Beyond googling on "community organizer," there are numerous biographies from John Adams to Martin Luther King, Jr., Desmond Tutu, the list is endless. It's all good stuff.

Your criticism of governor Palin suffers from one glaring deficiency: Senator Obama has no solid achievement to criticize. Question: do you have a copy of the job description for a Community Organizer? If such a document exists I'd like to see it posted.

Thank you, Tim. I'll try to track down Mr. McManus. If he is a good writer, he could have been in "Outside" magazine which has been a gem over the years.

(From John Bailey's site)

I love Ring of Bright Water. Growing up, it was one of my favorite stories along with the All Creatures Great and Small series.

If you like fun reading, light and breezy, try Patrick McManus. I believe that is how it is spelled. He is an outdoor writer for one of the sports magazines (Field and Stream, Outdoor Life, etc.) He has a great writing style and knows how to tell a story.
